A case for community dogs

The District Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has reportedly argued the government to immediately withdraw the order proposing the removal of stray dogs to shelter homes.

A stray dog can offer a range of benefits to citizens. They help to manage the population of rats, rodents, bandicoots and other creepy creatures which roam in the night.

If not for the barking of these stray dogs at night, these pests would be roaming on the streets and even enter the homes. Many of these community dogs guard housing colonies.

Of course there have been instances of dog attacks. But there could be reasons behind these attacks.

Every human life is precious. But there have been more deaths reported due to road accidents compared to dog attacks. It is crucial to manage community dog populations humanely through various initiatives like sterilization, vaccination and responsible feeding practices to ensure peaceful coexistence with humans.
