The matter appears resolved with a public apology of the Health Minister and CM assuring that the CMO will not be suspended. The moot point is that the law is not applied equally to all amid VIP culture. It is reported that GARD (Goa Association of Resident Doctors) in addition to calling for an end to VIP culture has also demanded a ban on videography even by the media within patient care areas. It is pertinent to note that if the media had not brought this incident to light, most probably nothing to fix the system would have happened. Ministers, doctors and nurses and even patients' misdemeanour in a democracy should be brought to light and open to public scrutiny and criticism. The Minister is not only guilty of extreme arrogance, but also not following due lawful procedure. The courts have admonished many citizens guilty of hurting someone's sentiments that apology is not enough and police have arrested teenagers and professors for their tweets or forwards. The doctors have been assured of protection with IPC laws specifically enacted for misbehaviour with doctors. The laws must be applied equally.
