There has been a noticeable spike in cancer cases in Goa in the last few years. Formaldehyde coated fish, cyanide coated fruits all being used to drive marketing of these products for earning high sums of money in the shortest time. These vendors care less about the health of citizens who are treated like guinea pigs to earn huge sums. The Food & Drugs Administration has to test these items laced with carcinogenic harmful chemicals, and put a halt to the sale of these products at the earliest. The erstwhile mandatory checking of fish at the borders has been put on a backburner and no testing for formalin is carried out putting millions of lives at risk of getting cancer. Immature fruits are plucked and transported across borders to be ripened artificially by dipping into cyanide solution to develop a yellow colour. Consuming such contaminated fruit poses a great health risk of getting cancer. The government should look into this health risk of the citizens and ban such products entering the state on urgent basis.
