Heavy rainfall has led to flooding in many parts of Goa. Whenever it rains heavily, the roads in Goa turn into swimming pools. This flooding happens every year during the monsoon, but the government has not been able to solve the problem. While flooding is expected in the rainy season, it is not common for water supply to get disrupted in Panaji and other areas. The government keeps talking about ‘Har Ghar Jal’, promising tap water in every home, but this remains just a slogan. The water is often contaminated, and there have been cases where people have fallen ill after drinking it. If the heavy rain continues, the government may need to buy boats and charge people boat fees, just like bus fares. Instead of promoting Panaji as a smart city, the government could think of turning it into a river city, given how often it floods.
