It’s heartening to hear the Konkani song ‘Taxi Mafia Konn?’ by Simran Vas on YouTube, dedicated to Goan taxi drivers. Only the families of these hardworking drivers truly understand the struggles of the taxi business—paying bank loans, maintenance, RTO fees, and still managing to support their families and educate their children.
Goans have been in this profession for generations, with deep knowledge of Goa’s roads, beaches, temples, churches, and forts. They speak Konkani, English, and Hindi and are known for their friendly service.
In contrast, many outsiders driving taxis rely on Google Maps, often taking wrong routes and wasting passengers’ time and money. The government’s taxi apps have not improved the situation significantly.
True mafias are involved in drugs, gambling, and crime—not honest taxi drivers. Let Goans live and work in peace in their own land. Thanks to those who always stand by them.
