Include Colvenkars in coastal circuit plan

I understand the goal is to develop Colva and other beaches into world-class destinations sustainably. However, with the Goa Government’s recent announcement to include Colva in the Coastal Tourism Circuit, I have serious concerns.

The same politicians behind Panaji’s failed Smart City project and substandard sewerage works are now tasked with developing Colva? This raises red flags.

Colva creek has been stinking with filth and sewage for over a decade. Despite a court order directing cleanup with stakeholder participation, nothing has changed. Will this new project finally address the creek’s condition?

A newly built toilet block was reportedly releasing sewage into the same creek. If the government can’t handle basic infrastructure, how will it manage large-scale development?

The GTDC hotel at Colva, in a prime location, is poorly maintained. Why take on expensive new projects when existing infrastructure is neglected? Are high-cost projects more attractive to politicians than essential maintenance?

How will this project impact local residents—businesses, employment, fishermen? The government has a poor record in supporting local Goans.

Before proceeding, the government must share detailed plans with Colvenkars and take a participatory approach. This project must not be forced on Colva. Let’s not turn South Goa into another North Goa mess.
