For ages in Goa; clay (chicot maathi) idols of Lord Ganesh were brought at home for Ganesh Chaturthi and worshipped. Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated with great faith. For past few years now some people have been bringing home idols made of Plaster of Paris (POP), that is hazardous and is bad for environment. These idols made of POP do not dissolve and affects the environment. We should patronize our age old method, bring home only clay Ganapati idols, painted with natural paint; which are nature friendly. Some idols float, some remain underneath and do not dissolve. It feels bad to see such sights. When Lord has given everything for us in nature to make things naturally, we have to ensure that we give it back to nature by using natural or organic material that is readily available in the nature. Nowadays, there’s been big talk about preserving environment but hypocritically people are repeating the same thing. So, let us pledge to make Ganesh Chaturthi environment friendly. What nature has given to us we’ll give it back to the nature and celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganapati Bappa Morya!
