Congratulations to the Margao Municipal Council on celebrating its 120th anniversary by repainting the building in its original red colour. This old heritage structure is located in the heart of Margao city.
During the Portuguese era, it was known as Câmara Municipal de Salcete and served all the villages in Salcete taluka for over 300 years, until the Goa Municipalities Act of 1968 came into force. It was then reconstituted as the Margao Municipal Council.
Thank you to those involved in maintaining this heritage building. However, it would be better if the light fittings were changed to LED, as they would brighten the space more, helping staff stay alert and work efficiently for the public. Also, the old broken window frames and cupboards should be replaced to protect the building during the rainy season.
