This is in response to the news report "Around 1,700 km of roads marked for improvement (TGE, Mar.30)." A whopping provision of Rs 1,000 crore in this year's budget by CM Pramod Sawant for the resurfacing and improvement of riding quality of all roads in Goa, will hopefully bring to an end the present miserable and pathetic condition of Goa roads. Year after year we have the same game being played out of a stereotyped pattern of poor workmanship by contractors and irresponsible supervision by the PWD on all Goa roads, that have brought huge losses to the Goa government. Road repairs, filling of potholes and hot mixing works are done in a haste and in a haphazard manner a month before the rains , only to return to square one, with even larger potholes and craters after the first few showers. If this manner of working is not corrected, we may even require an additional Rs 1,000 crore for improvement of our presently battered roads. It is time for the Goa govt to act before we have another repeat show.
