Untouchability strips people of their basic human dignity

I had thought and believed that untouchability was a thing of past in India. It is disheartening to know that untouchability, in some form or the other, still exists in our country. In some cases it is unclear whether conflicts arose due to caste factors or were results of personal issues. Shame on those who perpetuate it. Caste has long been the greatest taint on an otherwise profound and inclusive religion like Hinduism. Nevertheless, caste remains a serious issue that raises important questions but we are all equal -- no power on earth has the right to divide us based on caste, colour or creed or gender. Any form of discrimination -- especially one that amounts to untouchability, I have seen for the past many years the same heart breaking images -- people from marginalised communities physically removing human excreta. This practice strips people of their basic human dignity. Only a concerted effort -- legal enforcement with innovative technological solutions can help to a great extent and dismantle injustice and must be taken seriously and dealt with firmly.
