Goa’s cake artist wins global honour

A home baker from Goa, Nadia Aslam, who runs Nadia’s SweeTooth Studio in Miramar, has once again proven her excellence by securing her second international accolade in cake artistry. She was awarded Best Wedding Cake Artist on February 12 at the World Cake Artistry Competition 2026 in the Maldives. This achievement comes just eight months after she earned her first international title, Cake Artist of the Year 2025, at Sri Lanka’s SL Institute of Confectionery & Culinary Arts in Colombo.

Nadia was the lone participant from Goa in the World Cake Artistry competition 2026. She received the award at Kurumba Resort, a more than 50-year-old place and was the first ever island resort in Maldives.

Artists from 38 countries including India, Australia, UK, Syria, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Vietnam, Spain, Paris, Croatia, Korea, Japan, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Saudi Arabia, Nigeria etc participated in the contest.

“I was selected as a finalist for two categories – The Rising Star and the Best Wedding Cake Artist (Intermediate). I did not win the Rising Star award but bagged the Best Wedding Cake Artist (Intermediate) Award,” shares Nadia while speaking to The Goan.

Since it's a global platform there were no personal invites. The organisers release a nomination link. “And I filled the nomination form just minutes before the nominations date time was ending, at 11.35 pm while the nominations closed at 12am. It was so close! I just thought, why not take a chance? And I had no idea that I could make it. I actually got selected in two categories and ended up winning in one of them,” recalls Nadia who was the only Goan in the entire contest.

This woman entrepreneur is expert in chocolate modelling, cake deco, sugar craft, sculpting, and making French entremets, chocolate bonbons, gravity defying cakes, wedding cakes, sugar-free cakes etc. She boasts of having Goans living abroad as her clients who place their orders from Dubai, Honk Kong, Australia and America for their relatives in Goa while she executes the order and delivers at their doorstep before they arrive in India to celebrate festivals and occasions.

It was not a cake walk for Nadia to learn and master the art of cake baking. Having had a humble beginning she kept improvising her skills as the years passed on. A home entrepreneur for over a decade now, she boasts of catering to over 5000 happy clients across Goa and outside Goa.

“It is my passion for creation of unique cakes that leads me to fill the online forms for global competitions, participate in them and display my skills,” says Nadia, a mother of three who never dreamt of winning the ‘Artist of the Year’ award last year. “It is a big achievement for someone like me who never dreamt that I would ever receive such international appreciation,” said this science graduate from Goa College of Home Science.
