RGP rift gives Congress food for thought

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | 16th May, 12:25 am

The Congress leadership is closely watching the developments unfolding within the Revolutionary Goans Party. If sources in the Congress are to be believed, party leaders have expressed concern over the developments in the regional outfit. The rumblings within the RGP come at a time when certain Congress leaders were openly batting for a tie-up with the party. Interestingly, those opposed to an alliance with the RGP appear to be using the ongoing developments to argue that the leadership should abandon any plans of forging a pre-poll understanding. Wait and watch.

Kejriwal makes his presence felt in Goa

Aam Aadmi Party national convenor Arvind Kejriwal returned to Goa once again to strengthen the party organisation ahead of the upcoming polls. Accompanied by AAP Goa desk in-charge Atishi Marlena, the AAP leader made his presence felt in Velim constituency, where he paid a condolence visit to the family of a student who died by suicide. Kejriwal later returned to Velim to launch a health programme in the constituency, accompanied by party MLA Cruz Silva. Gearing up for the 2027 electoral battle, any questions?

Kerala signals a new mood in Congress circles

As VD Satheesan finally secured the High Command’s nod to take over the reins as Kerala Chief Minister, a section of the Goa Congress hoped the episode would put an end to the culture of Delhi imposing leadership choices on states. Encouraged by the stand taken by newly elected Kerala Congress legislators — who reportedly opposed any move to send K C Venugopal to head the government — local Congressmen are now hoping the High Command will take Goa’s ground realities into account before contemplating any changes in the party leadership in the State. Any takers?

GFP chief treads carefully amid RGP crossfire

“Once beaten, twice shy,” so goes the saying. And when Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai was quizzed by scribes over the developments unfolding within the Revolutionary Goans Party, he chose to tread cautiously. In fact, he politely declined to comment on the social media war between RGP supremo Manojbab Parab and MLA Vireshbab Borkar. Perhaps he has neither forgotten nor forgiven the sharp attacks launched against him by the RGP chief after the much-publicised Diwali-eve political bonhomie on his home turf, Fatorda. Any takers?

Congress duo hit the road, but will the ‘dosti’ remain?

It was a week when the captain of Goa Congress, Amitbab Patkar, led a motorcycle rally with party MP Captain Viriatobab Fernandes riding pillion, reminding one of Amitabh-Dharmendra in the Yeh Dosti Hum Nahi Todenge song from the iconic film Sholay. The duo stole the show as the rally wound its way through the city thoroughfares, including Malbhat lane — home to the office-cum-residence of PWD Minister Digambar Kamat. What soon became a talking point within political circles was whether the Amit-Viriato combination would continue to lead the party into the Assembly elections due in early 2027. Any guesses?
