Has Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant anything to say about the Davorlim Zilla Panchayat result, where the saffron brigade failed to retain the seat in the recently concluded election? After all, the Chief Minister had personally descended on the Davorlim battlefield in a determined bid to hold on to the constituency. During the campaign, he went so far as to question why minorities discriminate against the BJP when, according to him, the ruling government does not discriminate against any caste or creed while implementing welfare schemes. The result, however, has told a different story. Perhaps the Chief Minister or BJP state president Damubab Naik would do well to order an internal probe into the Davorlim debacle—especially since party candidate Satyavijaibab Naik has attributed his defeat to internal sabotage. Any takers?
All eyes on GFP chief and his
preps for 2027 Assembly polls
What’s on the mind of Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai after the Zilla Panchayat polls? His regional party managed to win the lone Raia seat despite contesting in as many as nine constituencies. Undoubtedly, Vijaibab is likely to gear up for the Municipal polls scheduled in early 2026. However, political observers feel that the Goa Forward chief needs to think beyond the 2026 civic polls and start preparing for the 2027 Assembly elections, barely a year later. A merger of the regional outfit with the Congress is being suggested by political observers as a way to strengthen non-BJP forces. Such a move, they argue, could also position Vijaibab Sardesai as a key player in bolstering the anti-BJP campaign in the run-up to the Assembly polls. Any questions?
AAP’s move to go solo was blessing
in disguise for Cong in Benaulim
From day one, the Congress rank and file in the Benaulim constituency strongly opposed any tie-up with the Aam Aadmi Party, especially after the party allotted the Benaulim ZP seat for the 2024 bye-poll to the Arvind Kejriwal-led outfit as part of the INDI Alliance. AAP’s decision to go solo in the recently concluded ZP polls came as a blessing in disguise for Congress workers in Benaulim. Party cadres had already begun campaigning in earnest to take on AAP’s might. After proving a point or two by winning the Benaulim ZP seat, Congress workers now seem to have their eyes firmly set on 2027. Is Leader of the Opposition Yuribab Alemao listening?
Yuri's gamble to stand firmly behind
new Cong entrants has paid off
Leader of the Opposition Yuribab Alemao appears to have stood firmly behind the new entrants he inducted into the party a couple of months ago. A case in point is Navelim, where Alemao had roped in Cipru Cardozo to keep the party in good stead for upcoming elections, including the recently concluded ZP polls. Sources say Yuribab had to virtually fight his way through the party to secure tickets for candidates recommended by Cipru in Navelim and Davorlim. Congress insiders reveal that a section of party leaders opposed giving both seats to Cipru’s nominees, fearing that electoral success would strengthen Cipru’s position and make him a strong claimant for the Navelim Congress ticket in 2027. Any questions?
Cong surge in Saxtti has
left some satraps in a fix
Hazard a guess on the fate of the Saxtti satraps, some of whom were attempting a political comeback in the recently concluded Zilla Panchayat polls through their cronies. A clear Congress surge in Saxtti appears to have left these satraps in a fix over their political future. Voters, by and large, rallied solidly behind the Congress in the ZP elections—from Nuvem to Benaulim, Velim, Guirdolim and Navelim, besides Colva.
Have the satraps decoded the message the Saxtti electorate has sent through the ZP poll results? Wait and watch.
