Filtration issues delay processing; remote villages worst affected

A severe water shortage has emerged over the past few days in the Keri panchayat area in Sattari, including remote villages such as Ghoteli and Kelavade.
Residents are facing great difficulty as water is being supplied with extremely low pressure through taps.
According to local representatives, the water supply department has attributed the issue to increased iron content in the dam water, which is affecting the filtration process.
As per official information, the rise in iron levels in raw water has disrupted the functioning of the filtration plant. To make the water safe for use, special chemicals must be added and the water needs to be settled. This complex process is taking longer than usual, resulting in water being supplied only once a day in the Keri region.
With rising summer temperatures, the demand for water has increased significantly. However, due to low-pressure supply, water is not reaching elevated and far-end areas like Ghoteli and Kelavade. Residents are struggling to meet their daily water needs.
Villagers have demanded that until the filtration plant resumes full capacity, the department should supply water through tankers and ensure proper distribution so that water reaches even the last household.
"The department has informed us that the issue is due to increased iron levels in the dam water. However, people in far-flung areas like Ghoteli and Kelavade are suffering due to lack of water. Until the technical issue is resolved, tanker water supply should be started immediately,” said Panch member Rajesh Gawas.
Expressing their concerns, residents complained that during summer, when water demand is already high, supply is limited to once a day and that too with very low pressure.
“How long should we keep accepting technical reasons? The administration must take concrete action immediately, otherwise villagers will be forced to take an aggressive stand,” said a resident.
When contacted, Keri Sarpanch Nandita Gawas confirmed that people in Keri panchayat area are struggling for water.
“The administration must arrange alternative solutions. As a homemaker, I understand the hardship people are facing. The panchayat has already communicated with the department. Ensuring water supply to the last household is every citizen’s right,” said the sarpanch.
