As water consumers in many villages across Salcete are facing water issues due to the disruption of supply from the Selaulim pipeline after Sunday’s power shutdown, Velim MLA Cruz Silva on Tuesday pointed out that water pressure in the Salcete area is regulated in order to supply water to Mormugao taluka.
In fact, the Velim MLA said he has been informed by sources in the water supply department that many villages in Salcete are experiencing low water pressure as the department has increased the water pressure supply to Mormugao.
Many higher areas of the Velim constituency, including Molla and Oilemol in Sao Jose de Areal, besides Baga in Velim, have experienced low water pressure in the last two days.
Silva pointed out that the water supply department will soon lay a new line connecting Padribhat to Mollar in Areal village to augment water pressure. He further said that the department has proposed a sump with a pumping facility to maintain water pressure in the area.
Saying that the Velim constituency has no major water problem affecting residents, the MLA, however, said, “What needs to be addressed on a war footing is the regulation of water pressure to provide an uninterrupted water supply to consumers.”
