State BJP steers clear of Congress turncoats’ cabinet induction issue

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 25, 2023, 12:03 AM IST

What could be the probable reasons behind the nine-month delay in awarding ministerial berths to the Congress turncoats, more so Saxtti’s Aleixo-Diggu duo? Well, pose this question to the State BJP leadership, and apt comes a reply that they have no idea what understanding the Congress turncoats had with the party Delhi leadership when they joined the BJP in mid-September 2022. Some say induction of these two Saxtti heavyweights into the Cabinet may disturb the existing power-sharing arrangement. Others say a section of State party leadership is believed to have raised questions whether inducting these heavyweights would in any way create a favourable impact on the party in minority Saxttidom in the ensuing Lok Sabha polls. Wait and watch.

Social media post of ruling Margao BJP councillors with Vijai goes viral

Post-birthday celebrations of Vijaibab Sardesai, one was left to wonder how come majority of Margao Municipal councillors posed for a photograph with the Goa Forward chief when his group enjoys the support of only nine councillors. Well, the photograph did the rounds on the social media, only throwing up a host of questions. Many a question seemed to have been answered earlier this week when Diggu paid a condolence visit to the Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai when he descended at Davondem to pay respects to his father Dr Jaivant accompanied by almost all the ruling BJP councillors. Any questions?

Are cops ready to face challenges of threats to stop beef in Margao?

After Sunday’s violence in the communally sensitive Rumdamol Housing Board, many recalled the role played by former Margao DySP Umeshbab Gaonkar and then Margao PI Rajendrabab Prabhudesai to nip in the bud communal elements raising their heads in Margao over a decade ago. After members of an organisation attempted to shut down the city after communal violence in Rumdamol, then DySP Umeshbab and PI Rajendrabab came down heavily on the rioters. Is the men-in-uniform ready to face the challenge of organisations threatening to stop beef in the commercial capital? Wait and watch.

When protocol came to fore on Revolution Day at Lohia Maidan

It was a week when “protocol” came to the fore at the historic Lohia Maidan at the Goa Revolution Day celebrations. At the official programme, Margao’s First Citizen, Margao civic chief Damubab Shirodkar had to take a back seat, while the VIPs led by Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant, Ministers and others were all seated on the front row. Protocol came to haunt the Congress leadership as well when a delegation of party leaders visited the Lohia Maidan to pay respects to the martyrs. Congress veteran and GPCC lone vice-president M K Sheikh was heard saying the younger lot does not understand protocol and stayed away during the photo session. Any questions?

9 months on, no Cong block committee in Margao yet

Is nine months too short a period for a political party to reorganise a block? This question may come to haunt GPCC chief Amitbab Patkar and his team with the Margao block committee neither reconstituted nor is headed by a new president. It’s over nine months since Diggu had left the party with members of all the Congress frontal organisations to play a new innings in the BJP. On the other hand, failure to constitute the Margao block and appoint a new chief has thrown up questions whether the GPCC is struggling to zero in on a right candidate or to groom party workers to take over the mantle of leadership.
