Though Tamil Nadu is thousands of kilometres away from Goa, Goans found themselves right in the middle of the post-election action during the government formation exercise. Kerala Governor Rajendra Arlekar, who also holds additional charge of Tamil Nadu, became the centre of attention after Vijay’s TVK staked claim to form the government. Likewise, Congress leader Girish Chodankar grabbed the spotlight in Tamil Nadu in his capacity as Congress in-charge, as he addressed the media to announce the party’s support to TVK in forming the government. Interesting, isn’t it?
TVK’s Tamil Nadu success gives Goa Forward food for thought
When Vijay’s TVK stunned poll pundits by emerging as the single largest party in the recently concluded Tamil Nadu elections, the ripple effects were felt even at Dovondem bandh, the residence of Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai. Reason: After TVK delivered an impressive performance without aligning with any major political force in Tamil Nadu, close aides of the Goa Forward chief have begun wondering whether the regional party could attempt a similar strategy in Goa during the upcoming Assembly elections. Without wasting time, Vijaibab is learnt to have decided to rope in a professional agency to carry out a realistic assessment of the mood of the Goan electorate. Wait and watch.
Congress strategy in Tamil Nadu raises eyebrows in Goa
As Tamil Nadu Congress in-charge, Girishbab Chodankar was in the thick of action in the southern state, back home in Goa, Girishbab’s detractors are asking a similar question: has the Congress truly achieved something remarkable in Tamil Nadu by winning five seats or is the party’s decision to extend support to Vijay’s TVK an attempt to regain relevance in Tamil Nadu politics? The question gains significance amid growing speculation over Girishbab’s possible return as GPCC chief. Any questions?
Churchill, Valanka test waters in Navelim with health camp
It was on a Sunday that Varca strongman Churchill Alemao and daughter Valankabai virtually launched their campaign for the 2027 Assembly elections in Navelim through a mega health camp. Churchillbab seemed overjoyed after more than 1,700 people registered to avail services provided by the medical team from KLE Hospital, Belgaum. What next for Churchillbab in Navelim? The former Chief Minister has made no secret of his intention, repeatedly telling the media that Valankabai would contest the forthcoming elections from Navelim — a constituency he himself represented in 2007. Wait and watch.
Development bridges gap between Minister, Velim MLA
Development appears to have brought Drinking Water Minister Subhash Phal Dessai and Velim AAP MLA Cruz Silva onto the same platform. The two had crossed swords two years ago over the installation of a statue of Maratha warrior Shivaji Maharaj at Sao Jose de Areal village, with Subhashbab even facing the wrath of sections of the local population. Two years later, however, the Minister returned to Areal village — this time to lay the foundation stone for the replacement of an ageing water pipeline. Not only did the duo appear to share cordial relations, but the Minister also acknowledged the efforts put in by the Velim MLA. Any questions?
