CM’s announcement on razed temples report raises eyebrows

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JUNE 04, 2023, 12:30 AM IST

Chief Minister Pramodbab Sawant’s announcement that the report on the razing of temples during the colonial rule would soon be made public has raised many an eyebrow. Political observers are trying to figure out when exactly will the government finally make the report public. For, given the sensitive nature of the issue, all eyes are focused on the timing of the report with less than a year to go for the Lok Sabha polls.  In the run up to the 2022 Assembly polls, the government had unveiled its plans to restore the razed temples. Wait and watch what lies in store ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha polls.

LS nominations: Will Congress maintain communal balance?

A year to go for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, questions are being asked within the Congress and outside whether the Party High Command will depart from its time tested policy of nominating a candidate from the majority community for the North Goa Lok Sabha seat and a minority nominee in down South. The Congress had all along maintained the delicate communal balance by nominating party candidates from the two major communities. Will the party leadership risk antagonising the minorities by departing from the time-tested norm in the coming Lok Sabha polls and give an armament to the saffron brigade to beat the Congress. Wait and watch.

Cabral ‘silent’ on geo-bag tech to stop sewage effluents

What’s the take of PWD Minister Nileshbab Cabral on the geo-bag technology mooted by WRD Minister Subhashbab Shirodkar to stop the sewage effluents from the commercial capital into the river Sal? Well, nothing has been heard from Cabralbab, whose PWD and Sewerage Infrastructure Development Corporation is responsible in laying the sewerage network? Don’t be surprised if Nileshbab says that hundreds of crores of rupees have been spent on the sewerage network in Margao and that works initiated around a decade ago are still not being completed by the contractors. Any questions?

Elvis eyes S Goa Cong LS ticket, working on two-fold strategy

Bureaucrat-turned-politician and Congress leader Elvisbab Gomes seemed going in his own way in a bid to get the Congress nomination for the South Goa Lok Sabha ticket. He has not stopped his interactions within the constituency. He seemed working on a two-fold strategy, raising public issues on the party banner and at the same time continues to have his interactions with social groups in support of his candidature. Given his close association with football, Elvisbab, sources said, also seemed counting on the sports fraternity to back his candidature. The race for the Congress South Goa LS ticket seemed to have started in right earnest.

Will Vijai fulfill his pledge on bypass on stilts in Benaulim?

Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai’s pledge to take up the issue of construction of western bypass on stilts in Benaulim at the highest level in Goa and Delhi has raised a host of questions. One, how will Vijaibab get the bypass on stilts when he is not aligned to the double engine Sarkar in Goa and in Delhi, or whether he intends to use his past connections with the powers that be to sanction funds for the bypass on stilts. Whether he succeeds in getting the bypass on stilts or not, Vijaibab seemed convinced the bypass sans stilts will not only inundate Benaulim, but Fatorda as well. Any takers?
