Has mini casino gambling stopped in Margao, outskirts after raids?

Guilherme Almeida | FEBRUARY 25, 2023, 09:28 PM IST

Any idea how many mini casino gambling dens are operating in Margao and the city outskirts? Ask District police Chief, Abhishek Dania, IPS and apt comes the reply the police has raided 10 mini casino gambling dens. But, has mini casino gambling stopped in Margao and the city outskirts in the wake of these raids, Madgavkars and Saxttikars may be anxious to know? Well, pose the question to DGP Jaspal Singh and the state police chief may call on citizens to share intelligence on gambling dens with the men-in-uniform. Members of the fourth estate only hope they do not receive notices from the cops to share intelligence on the mini-casinos. Any questions?

Use time tested police beat system

to rein in crimes and criminals

Will the men in uniform shed light on the time tested police beat system that had in the past assisted the cops to rein in crimes and criminals? Well, taken by surprise over DGP Jaspal Singh’s remark that citizens should share intelligence with the police to initiate action against anti-social activities, the old guard in the Goa police says time tested beat system may offer an answer to tone up intelligence gathering in the state, instead of pushing the buck on citizens to provide inputs to initiate crackdown. Any takers?

All eyes on Pratima and her quest for

South Goa parliamentary seat

Before she finally landed in the Aam Admi party, Adv Pratimabai Coutinho had emerged a contender for the Congress ticket to contest the 2019 Lok Sabha polls from South Goa. It’s another matter Pratimabai lost the race for the ticket to veteran Sardinhbab. She is now in the AAP, but the moot question remains unanswered – will the AAP leadership consider Pratimabai for the South Goa seat in 2024. With an eye on the future, Pratimabai has made her presence felt across the state including South Goa under the banner of Save Mhadei movement.

Elvis may have few tricks up his sleeve

in run up to 2024 parliamentary polls

What’s Congress leader Elvisbab Gomes up to? Nothing much has been heard from the bureaucrat-turned-politician of late. Sources in the know, however, say Elvisbab is working underground, interacting with activists and the civil society, discussing burning issues plaguing the state. The Congress leader is seen as a probable aspirant for the Congress ticket to contest the South Goa Lok Sabha seat, throwing up a question whether the ongoing exercise initiated by him is part of the plan ahead of the 2024 LS polls or whether he has some other plan up his sleeve. It pays to ponder.

How many Congress leaders from Goa

attending Plenary session? Any guesses?

Top Goa Congress leaders have all headed to Raipur in Chhattisgarh to attend the Congress Plenary session. GPCC Chief Amitbab Patkar, besides Opposition leader Yuribab Alemao are amongst the leaders,  who are reportedly attending the session. It is learnt that South Goa MP Franciscbab Sardinha also made his presence felt at Raipur for the session. Let's see whether the Congress leaders will return from Raipur all charged up to take on the saffron brigade in an aggressive mode back home. By the way, local Congress leaders are trying to figure out how many party leaders from Goa are attending the Plenary session.
