Mirabag agitation finds Vijai’s support after protesters’ release

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | 08th March, 12:54 am

The four Mirabag protesters received a rousing welcome when they returned to their home village after their release by the Porvorim police over the weekend. However, before heading home, they made a stop at Goemkar Ghor, the headquarters of the Goa Forward Party. Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai greeted the quartet with flower garlands and extended his full support to their agitation against the Mirabag bhandara project. Mirabag protest in House triggers hunt for pass issuer

The question now is — has the government still not discovered which MLA facilitated their entry? Wait and watch.

BJP workers or ‘terrorists’? Mirabag row raises questions

The BJP leadership may soon have to confront an uncomfortable question from its own workers in Mirabag — how could loyal party workers who toiled for the party over the years suddenly be branded as “terrorists” over the Mirabag bhandara project? The protesters themselves made no attempt to hide their BJP affiliation, openly declaring their membership both during the Assembly protest and later at Lohia Maidan. In fact, several women protesters repeatedly reminded the police that they were BJP workers who had served the party faithfully for years. Interesting, isn’t it?

Churchill raises ‘two yardsticks’ question in Louis Berger case

It was a week when Varca strongman Bab Churchill raised a pointed question — how did he end up in jail in the Louis Berger case while another accused in the same matter has been rewarded with a ministerial berth? Days after BJP national president Nitin Nabin accused the previous Congress government of corruption in the JICA project, Churchillbab questioned the differing yardsticks applied by the government to two individuals named in the case. Who is the accused Churchillbab is referring to? No prizes for the right answer.

Elvis back in action on home turf civic issues

Bureaucrat-turned-politician Elvisbab Gomes appears to be gearing up to play a more active role in his home turf of Cuncolim. Just days after writing to the Cuncolim Municipal Council about severe traffic congestion, he was back in action this week — this time demanding a probe into the ongoing drainage works along NH66. Local political observers are now trying to decode what exactly is on Elvisbab’s mind with less than a year to go before the 2027 Assembly elections. Wait and watch.
