Oppn MLAs prove in Assembly that numbers do not matter

GUILHERME ALMEIDA | JANUARY 22, 2023, 12:24 AM IST

The opposition Saxtti brigade has proved a point or two again that numbers do not matter in taking on the government. Be it Opposition Leader Yuribab Alemao, Goa Forward chief Vijaibab Sardesai or AAP MLAs Venzybab Viegas or Cruzbab Silva, they took up where they left in the first Assembly session. While experience came in handy for Vijaibab to fire all cylinders, first time MLAs, Yuri, Venzy and Cruz did not lag behind. With Saxtti heavyweights, the Diggu-Aleixo duo now part of the BJP and Independent MLA Reginaldbab Lourenco supporting the saffron brigade, these young MLAs seemed to have kept the opposition flag flying high in the Assembly. Any questions?

When Vijai thundered in House ‘50 Khokes & all ok’

What message did Goa Forward party chief Vijaibab Sardesai sought to convey when he thundered in the just concluded Assembly session that “50 Khokes and all is ok”. Well, Vijaibab apparently sought to remind that this was a famous slogan that did the rounds in Mumbai when the Shiv Sena-led government collapsed in Maharashtra. This brings to the fore the moot point what prompted Vijaibab to raise the slogan on the floor of the House. Was he trying to point fingers at a particular defector for allegedly accepting the 50 Khokes before the defection? Many a question remains unanswered.

Girish trades barb at rivals, brings up Jr Rane’s RSS claim

Ex-GPCC chief Girishbab Chodankar has maintained stoic silence over Congress-turned-BJP MLA Sankalpbab Amonkar in RSS attire. He, however, is believed to have sought to know the rationale behind pointing accusing fingers at him if Sankalp has embraced the RSS uniform. Girishbab has told his close aides that those pointing accusing fingers at him have anything to say over Vishwajitbab Rane’s claim that he too was part of the RSS since his younger days. Girishbab has wondered why Congress leaders did not dare utter a word at former CM Pratapsing Rane over Jr Rane’s claim. Interesting, isn’t it?

Luizinho pins hopes on Centre for nod to divert MPLAD funds

TMC Rajya Sabha MP Luizinhbab Faleiro must be hoping against hope that the Centre gives the nod for his proposal to divert his MPLAD funds from Bengal to Goa before the end of the current financial year.  Luizinhbab had made it to the Rajya Sabha from Bengal on the TMC banner and is aware of the fact that MPLAD funds can be spent in the State of the MP’s election. He, however, has sought to divert the funds from Bengal to Goa to set up a grand memorial in his home village Navelim as a mark of respect to the great nationalist Dr Francis Luis Gomes. Wait and watch.

Kamat’s son in the forefront, this  time distributes sanction letters

Diggu’s son Yogiraj was back in the news again this week, this time as he did the honours of distributing sanction letters of Laadli Laxmi scheme to as many as 86 beneficiaries hailing from Margao constituency. As pictures of Yogiraj distributing the sanction letters did the rounds on the social media, Madgavkars sought to know the answer to the same old question – is the seven-time Margao MLA bracing up to hand over the baton to son in the near future. Only time will tell.
