Ambelim Sports Club have secured their place in the finals of the 25th All Goa Our Lady of Merces 8-a-side Inter Village Football Tournament.
The team beat Fr Angel Youth Club Paroda in a closely contested match at the Chinchinim Church ground, organised by Sirlim Sports Club.
The match was a tense battle primarily in the midfield, with Fr Angel Youth Club Paroda enjoying a slight advantage thanks to Selton Fernandes, who controlled play from the centre. Despite this, Ambelim’s defence proved resolute, thwarting Paroda’s attempts to break through. The first half ended in a 0-0 stalemate, with neither team managing to convert their opportunities.
The second half saw continued efforts from both sides to open the scoring. Ambelim had a promising chance in the 34th minute from a free kick, but Micheal’s attempt sailed over the crossbar.
Paroda maintained pressure throughout the half, yet Ambelim’s goalkeeper, Benny, made several key saves, ensuring the match remained goalless and heading to a penalty shootout.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Ambelim Sports Club emerged victorious. Micheal, Velroy, Crossley, and Blasco all successfully converted their penalties. Although Lester’s attempt was saved, it did not impact the outcome. For Fr. Angel Youth Club Paroda, Kanxhan and Melvino scored, but Benny’s saves against Drenzil and Clifton ensured a 4-2 win for Ambelim in the shootout.
Ambelim SC will face Navelim Villagers Union in the finals, scheduled for August 15.
