A second half strike from attacking medio Joywin D'Souza was enough for CAC Cansaluim to register a solitary goal win against Rossman Cruz SC to emerge champions of 21st Fr Basilio Andrade football tournament played at Musson ground, Majorda.
The all-important goal which proved to be the match winner came in the 58th minute following a brilliant pass by Chadwick Furtado, who was the playmaker of the evening. On a number of occasions, he gave good passes and support to his forwardline.
Rossman Cruz's Romario D'costa advanced forward and Hilton Fernandes, who was lurking around, shot wide. Both teams were evenly balanced in all the departments and played possession-based football throughout. The ball rolled from one end to the other as the teams tried to get the better of each other as a goal looked imminent.
The defence of both the teams, however, stood firm and cleared the ball to safety whenever the opponents came charging to find the mark. Both the goalkeepers made good saves on many occasions. In the last few minutes of play, Rossman Cruz tried some long-rangers which were off the mark or went to the Cansaluim keeper.
The chief guest for the finals was Rev Fr Candido Fernandes, parish priest of Majorda Church and distributed the prizes in the presence of Sarpanch and members of VP Majorda and Nelly Rodriguez, ex-ZP member.
