Calangute Veterans downed Vasco Veterans 2-0 to win the POGO Boys 50-plus Veterans Cup football tournament at Our Lady of Merces Church ground, Merces on Wednesday.
Calangute Veterans held the edge in both halves and Allwyn Fernandes rocked the rival citadel with a snap shot in the 10th minute. Vasco tried getting back into the game but cudnt get on the scoresheet. In the second half, former India captain Bruno Coutinho scored from a deflected shot, giving goalkeeper Anand no chance as Calangute Veterans went 2-0 ahead.
Assis Fernandes, Sarpanch of VP Merces, was the chief guest and gave away the prizes to the winners and runners-up in the presence of Girish Usskaikar, Celia Sequeira, Shuchita Amonkar, Mhukesh Shirgoakar, Yateen Palekar, Amrstrong Braganza, Venancio Gonsalves, other dignitaries and club officials.
