Chowgule Global will take on Desserts N’More Geno Sports Club in the final of Bandodkar League T20 Tournament organised by Panjim Gymkhana here on Thursday morning.
In the semi-finals on Wednesday, Chowgule Global inflicted a crushing 10-wicket loss onto Dempo Cricket Club; before Desserts N'More Geno Sports Club got the better of host team Manas Panaji Gymkhana by 38 runs.
Put into bat, Dempo CC put up a meek batting display with opener Gauresh Kambli being the top-scorer with 32 runs. Lower down the order, Saniket Palkar contributed 27 to help the team post a modest total of 138/9.
Chowgule captain Darshan Misal (3/19) and was instrumental in keeping the rival batters under a tight leash. The experienced left-arm orthodox spinner was named Player of the match after his side chased down the total with almost 8 overs to spare, without losing a wicket as openers Shivendra Bhujbal (85 not out off 41 balls) and Aryan Narvekar (53 not out off 33 balls) came out all guns blazing. Shivendra was more aggressive of the two, hitting 8 sixes and 3 boundaries while Aryan notched up five boundaries and 3 sixes.
In the second match, there was more entertainment in store as Desserts N'More Geno SC opted to bat first and posted a formidable total of 185/5. Pukhraj Mann (54 off 35b; 4x3, 6x4), Lalit Yadav (44 not out off 26b; 4x4, 6x3) and captain Deepraj Gaonkar (30 off 19b; 6x4) did the bulk of the scoring. Pukhraj & Deepraj combined for third-wicket partnership of 56 runs, which in the end proved to be the key aspect of the inning.
In reply, Manas Panjim Gymkhana lost wickets at crucial junctures of their chase after Manthan Khutkar (43 off 24b; 4x4, 6x3) had provided a good hand to lay a decent foundation. Once the free-scoring left-hander was out stumped off Shubham Desai (2/26), Panjim Gymkhana had to depend on the lower order batters like Shubham Garhwal (28) and Jeevankumar Chittem (27). The duo threatened for a while as they hit 5 sixes between them, before the hosts were bowled out for 147 in 18.1 overs in the face of a team bowling effort with the likes of Ruthvik Naik, Dheeraj Yadav and Achit Shigwan picking up 2 wickets apiece. Lalit Yadav was named Player of the Match.
