The newly elected chairman of the technical committee of the Goa Football Association (GFA) Savio Medeira has expressed confidence that his team can bring positive changes to help the official State sport in Goa.

The former India midfielder who has played various roles at the All India Football Federation -- as the chief coach, technical director and director of coach education, was appointed as the co-opted member of the GFA.

"We have discussed with coaches about various aspect of Goan football that need to be given urgent attention in order to elevate the sport in the state to global standards. The problems are far too many and deep-rooted. One can begin with organization, youth development, talent identification, infrastructure, coach education and referee education," Medeira said.

"We must take all stakeholders into confidence including the media. The GFA recognizes these issues and is committed to work towards improving the situation in the best possible manner. We'll tackle these (issues) in an organized and systematic manner," Medeira stated.

Speaking about Medeira's appointment to the key position, GFA president Dr Caitano Fernandes said, "We are very happy that Medeira, a former India international, who has served the country for long, has joined us in our endeavour to take Goan football forward. Given his experience and the work he has done throughout his playing and coaching career, he is a deserving candidate to be in this position. We are very sure that he will grow in the job and will be taking the leadership role in the technical matters of Goan football."

Anthony Pango, GFA senior vice-president, said, "Under Savio, we will be able to build a strong technical team, and all the aspects in the strategic roadmap, starting with talent development, elite player development and coming up with our own philosophy of football.

"Therefore, there is a huge amount of work ahead. And it's not going to be easy, but we are confident that we will be able to grow and create a new era for Goan football," Pango said.
