In a thrilling match at the Raia Panchayat ground on Sunday, St Anthony SC Assolda emerged victorious over Parish Youth Nuvem via a tiebreaker to secure their spot in the quarterfinals of the 50th Custodio Memorial Football Tournament, organized by Raia Sporting Club.
The star of the match was Moses D'Sa, the attacking midfielder from St Anthony SC Assolda, whose exceptional dribbling, precise passes, and powerful shots dazzled the spectators.
The game began with high intensity as Louise Noronha, the striker for Assolda, narrowly missed the Nuvem target with a powerful shot in the 9th minute. Nuvem responded swiftly with Jonas Colaco's close-range attempt, which was expertly saved by Allwyn Faria, the Assolda goalkeeper.
It was Assolda who broke the deadlock in the 20th minute with a cunning long-range strike from Moses that found the back of the Nuvem net. However, Nuvem quickly equalized just before halftime when Alvito Dias delivered a well-placed cross to Shenoy Colaco, who headed the ball past the Assolda goalkeeper.
The second half saw Assolda regain the lead in the 50th minute through a counter-attack orchestrated by Valentine Carvalho, who coolly finished to make it 2-1. After a close-range attempt by Assolda's Sunny Fernandes that hit the goalpost, Jonas Colaco equalized for Nuvem in the 56th minute, making it 2-2.
With the score tied after regulation time, the match proceeded to a tiebreaker. St. Anthony SC Assolda proved to be more clinical from the spot, securing their victory in the shootout.
