The Dona Leonor Memorial High School, which has served Porvorim for nearly four decades, the oldest school in the locality, held its annual Sports Day on December 4 on the school ground.
The flame was lit and an oath taken, indicating the level of interest the school takes in its extra-curricular activities. The Headmistress, Bhavana Naik, read out the names of students who had won prizes at taluka, zonal and national levels in various sports.
Students from standards I to X were led by the Head Boy, Vyom Vijaykar, in an impressive marchpast by the four Houses. Gauravi Nishad, the Head Girl, played an important role, too. The march-past trophy was awarded to the Yellow House. Best Sportsperson (male) was Soham Naik and Best Sportsperson (female) was awarded to Simran Khawas. The 4 x 100 m prize for relay boys and girls were won by Green House.
The students put up performances which included the lezhim dance and stick presentation. They also conducted dumbbell exercises, pompom dance, pyramids, a gymnastic acts and singular performance by the Konkani Primary students, carrying ‘football’ replicas. The efforts of all the teachers and the students showed in every aspect of the Sports’ Day.
The chief guest for the day was Chetan Kavlekar, Vice President of the Archery Association of India, Joint Secretary of Goa Olympic Association, President of HSS Physical Education Teachers’ Association, All Goa Council of Physical Education and Health and Physical Education Teacher at the Dempo HSS of Commerce.
