The Goa Badminton Association (GBA) held its Annual General Body Meeting (AGM) at Goa Vivanta, Miramar, marking the launch of its 60th Diamond Jubilee Year celebrations. The meeting was attended by representatives from the two district associations and 26 affiliated clubs across the State.

The AGM featured addresses by GBA President Manoj Patil, Secretary Praveen Shenoy, and Treasurer Sanjay Bhobe. The Annual Report and audited financial accounts for the past year were unanimously approved, reflecting a year of significant activity, reforms, and strategic planning.

In his keynote speech, President Patil highlighted the association’s rich legacy and unveiled an ambitious plan for the future. Major initiatives include grassroots badminton programmes across every taluka, a talent identification programme to nurture young players, school outreach efforts targeting rural and semi-urban children, technical workshops for officials and coaches, and the launch of the BWF Shuttle Time programme to train physical education teachers.

Plans were also announced for a corporate badminton tournament and a grand badminton convention to honour past legends and inspire current players. Patil also revealed ongoing discussions with the Badminton Association of India to establish a National Centre of Excellence in Goa, aimed at providing world-class training and sports science support to local athletes.

Secretary Shenoy announced that Goa will host two prestigious All India Ranking Tournaments in June—covering the Under-15 and Under-17 categories at Peddem, followed by the Under-13 event at Navelim. Additionally, the Inter-State West Zone Championship will be held in September at the Indoor Stadium, Campal, promising competitive action among western states.

Treasurer Bhobe presented the financial report and was commended for transparent accounting and prudent resource management, which have supported the expansion of the association’s programs.

The AGM concluded with the GBA recognizing clubs for their ongoing contribution to badminton development throughout the year. Certificates of appreciation were awarded to Naveed Tahsildar of Radiant Sports Club and Santosh George of BPS Sports Club.

The association plans a series of tournaments, events, and initiatives to celebrate its 60th Diamond Jubilee Year throughout the coming months.
