Goa boys runners-up at Haridwar tourney

Goa boys team bagged silver at the 30th Junior National Tennis Ball Cricket Championship held at Balla Stadium, Haridwar, Uttarakhand on Saturday. Goa lost to Chattisgarh in the finals.

In the final reduced to four overs per side due to rains, Goa scored 23/4 with Punit Khandeparkar (10) and Pratik Naik (8) being the top scorers. Chattisgarh chased down the target in 3.4 overs with five wickets to spare. Punit (4/1), Kannayya (5/1) and Akshad (8/1) were amongst the wickets.

Earlier in the semifinal, also a four-over matchup, Goa beat Rajasthan by 13 runs after scoring 48/3. Saish Gawde (15), Akshad Naik (10), Vijay Halgekar (8) and Harsh Gala (10) were the main scorers before Punit Khandeparkar (12/1) and Vijay Halgekar (10/3) helped Goa restrict Rajasthan to 35/4.

In the quarterfinals, Goa beat AIIB by 10 runs and in the pre-quarterfinals, they thumped Punjab by 30 runs. In the opening league match, Goa outplayed Sikkim by eight wickets.

Kannayya Gawde was named as the Best Bowler and received a smart watch as the prize.
