Goa’s Aarush Pawaskar delivered an impressive performance at the Yonex-Sunrise 36th Sub Junior (U-15 & 17) National Badminton Championships 2024 in Chennai, reaching the quarterfinals in the U-15 Boys Doubles category alongside his partner Shaurya Singh Rana from Uttarakhand.
The duo, seeded four, showcased exceptional teamwork and aggression, before bowing out in the quarterfinals.
In the Round of 32, Aarush and Shaurya defeated the Delhi pair of Vivaan Bisht and Chinmay Nimmagadda with a decisive 21-14, 21-15 scoreline. Their momentum continued into the Round of 16, where they overcame Daksh Baruah and Anchit Das from Assam in straight sets, 21-14, 21-16, securing a spot in the top eight. However, their journey ended in a challenging quarterfinal match against the Tamil Nadu pair Shahid Ibrahim Buhari and Adhav Surya, seeded seventh and eventual runners-up, who claimed victory.
GBA President Manoj Patil commended Aarush’s run, noting that his performance reflects the dedication of this young Goan talent, who is training at a prominent academy, and signals a promising future for badminton in the state. He added that while Goan girls have secured numerous medals over the past decade, the emergence of Aarush and a few other promising talents among boys is an encouraging sign of the sport’s growth and competitiveness in Goa.
