MARGAO: Guardian Angel SC edged out United Club of Verna 4-3 in a thrilling tiebreaker to advance to the quarterfinals of the 43rd Gold Silver Rolling Trophy, organized by Navelim Sporting Club, at the Rosary Ground in Navelim on Saturday.
The match saw early chances with Clive Fernandes of United Club of Verna missing a shot in the 4th minute, and Godwin Fernandes of Guardian Angel SC narrowly missing the target in the 6th minute. Hilton Fernandes of United Club of Verna created a dangerous opportunity in the 10th minute, but his attempt was expertly saved by the Guardian Angel SC goalkeeper.
United Club of Verna took the lead with a goal from Clifton in the 41st minute, but Guardian Angel SC quickly equalized through Godwin Fernandes in the 52nd minute. The match was ultimately decided in the tiebreaker, where Guardian Angel SC outperformed United Club of Verna in the penalty shootout.
Russell Fernandes of Guardian Angel SC was named Man of the Match by chief guest Micky Rebello for his outstanding performance.
