Guardian Angel SC delivered a dominant performance to defeat United Club of Verna 2-1 in an exciting encounter of the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament held at the Benaulim Panchayat ground.
From the outset, Guardian Angel SC took control of the game, dictating play in the midfield and putting Verna under early pressure. Their attacking intent paid off in the 9th minute when Preston opened the scoring, finishing off a well-worked move involving Ivon and Royston Costa.
Despite Guardian Angel’s dominance, Verna remained in the contest thanks to a string of outstanding saves by goalkeeper Myron Fernandes, who ensured the score remained 1-0 at the break.
Resuming the second half with the same intensity, Guardian Angel doubled their lead in the 38th minute. Preston Castano, a constant threat down the left flank, set up Regan Costa, who made no mistake with a composed finish. Verna managed to pull one back, albeit through an own goal by their defender Sheldon Pereira, but it was not enough to change the tide.
Regan Costa was named Man of the Match for his decisive contribution and received the award from Felicia Noronha, Panch member of V.P. Cana Benaulim.
