Navelim Sporting Club progressed to the next round of the 4th Betalbatim Villagers Cup 2025 after a tense 3-1 victory over Sporting Club of Davorlim in a penalty shootout, following a 1-1 draw in regulation time at Panchayat Ground, Betalbatim on Wednesday
Davorlim’s Ajay Raj had a clear opportunity in the 17th minute but failed to find the target. Navelim took advantage of the miss and broke the deadlock in the 25th minute when Macvin Gomes unleashed a powerful strike from distance that beat the Davorlim goalkeeper.
Davorlim found their equaliser in the 33rd minute through Alent Colaco, leaving the teams level at the break.
In the second half, Milton Colaco came close to putting Davorlim ahead, but his long-range effort struck the crossbar in the 50th minute. Davorlim pressed hard in the closing stages but couldn’t convert their chances.
With the scores tied at full-time, the match went to penalties. Navelim kept their composure, converting three of their spot-kicks while restricting Davorlim to just one successful attempt.
