MARGAO
Sao Jose de Areal booked their place in the next round of the 34th Super Soccer Football Tournament with a composed 2-0 victory over a spirited United Boys of Dando Colva at the Benaulim Panchayat ground.
The match began with the hosts, Colva, on the front foot, surprising Areal with their early attacking intent. Their best chance came in the 25th minute when Shanon failed to convert into an open net. Despite Colva’s dominance in the first half, the teams went into the break locked at 0-0.
Areal turned the tide in the second half. Midfield duo Priston Gomes and John Gomindes began dictating the tempo, and in the 37th minute, Priston broke the deadlock with a well-taken goal. Colva pushed back with promising moves from Conred and Clifford Fernandes, but Bersal Viegas led a disciplined Areal defense to keep them at bay.
Stalen sealed the result in the 54th minute, scoring Areal’s second with a composed finish.
While Clifford Fernandes stood out for Colva, it was Priston Gomes who was named Man of the Match, an award presented by Glyda Rodrigues, Deputy Sarpanch of V.P. Cana Benaulim, after a commanding display in midfield.
