Olympians and Arjuna awardees Joaquim Carvalho and Merwin Fernandes met with Goa Chief Secretary Dr. V. Candavelou to discuss their grassroots hockey development initiative aimed at promoting the sport at the school level.
As part of their visit, the two legends also met Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant and Goa Assembly Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar, where they proposed the adoption of Balaram High School under the hockey grassroots development program.
They also engaged with key officials including Sports Authority of Goa Executive Director Geeta Nagvekar, Directorate of Sports and Youth Affairs Director Ajay Gaude, and Goa Badminton Association President Manoj Patil to garner broader institutional support.
Earlier in the day, the duo visited several schools in North Goa, where they shared their technical expertise and interacted with students and staff.
Their outreach will continue with planned visits to schools in Assolna, Velim, and Chinchinim. Their schedule will conclude with a joint meeting between Cuncolim and Assolna Hockey Clubs, aimed at strengthening the region’s youth hockey development efforts.
