Vidya Prabodhini College, Rosary College, MES College and St Xavier's College reached the quarterfinals of Inter Collegiate Football Championship for Women organised by Goa University, on Monday.
At Goa University ground, Vidya Prabodhini College defeated DMC, Assagao 6-5 on penalties. DMC went ahead with a strike from Ridah Shaikh in the 8th minute before Metali Gawander made it 2-0 in the 26th minute. Vidya Prabodhini bounced back with a goal from Ashreen Fernandes in the 27th minute. The second half started with a very defensive approach from DMC but Vidya Prabodhini managed to equalise in the 32nd minute through Divya Sangodkar. In the shootout, Vidya Prabodhini edged DMC.
In the second match, Rosary College, Navelim defeated Govt College, Quepem 5-0. Rosary College were up by four goals before half time. The first goal was an own goal conceded by Govt College, Quepem in the 14th minute before Aniela Barretto, Rizella Cia Almeida and Rhea Pires scored in the 18th, 20th and 26th minutes respectively. In the second half, Rosary added another in the 37th minute through Jossel Mascarenhas.
At Rosary College ground, MES College beat Chowgule College 3-1. Akansha Medar put MES ahead with a 25-yard strike into the corner of the goal. Pooja Bind scored the second for MES in the 37th minute as they led 2-0 at the break. In the second half, Chowgule College fought back by scoring a goal in the 49th minute through Santoshi Kevat. However Twinie Tavares scored the third goal for MES in the 60th minute to seal a comfortable victory.
In the second match at the venue, St Xavier’s College, Mapusa routed Govt College, Pernem 8-0. Two goals each were scored by Pusha Parab, Mithali Pinto and Namita Govekar while Agnela Antao and Sujata Naik scored one goal each.
