Lesvin selected in India U-17 squad for SAFF Championship

Ambaulim’s Lesvin Rebello has been named in India’s national under-17 football squad for the SAFF U17 Championship in Sri Lanka, marking a significant milestone for the young forward.

Lesvin, a student of Damodar Higher Secondary School, Gudi Paroda, has consistently impressed in domestic tournaments and training camps, earning recognition at the national level.

The Blue Colts have been training in Goa for nearly two months since trials began in July and will arrive in Colombo on Saturday. India are placed in Group B and will face Maldives on September 16, Bhutan on September 19, and Pakistan on September 22. The semi-finals are scheduled for September 25, with the final set for September 27. India enter the tournament as defending champions, having defeated Bangladesh 2-0 to win last year’s SAFF U17 title in Bhutan.

Senior Vice President of Goa Football Association, Anthony Pango, congratulated Lesvin, calling his selection a reflection of his “hard work, dedication, and passion for the game” and noting it as a proud moment for Quepem’s football community. Similarly, Quepem MLA Altone D’Costa extended his best wishes on social media, praising Lesvin for making the town proud and wishing him success in the tournament.
