Ponda police have finally booked one of their own men for assault related to an incident which occurred four days ago where he allegedly thrashed a youth with his baton for allegedly filming him beating up dogs on the street.

The mother of the victim boy Shreyash Hardikar had approached the South Goa Superintendent of Police with a complaint narrating the assault of her son by the policeman.

Police have identified the accused cop as Vinod.

According to the complaint filed by Shreyash' mother, her son was beaten up on September 10 with a baton by Vinod, who is attached to the Mardol police station.

Shreyash had reportedly shot a video of the policeman beating up dogs on the street which infuriated him.

Reacting angrily the constable attacked Shreyash hitting him on the neck with his baton, the complaint alleged. He was admitted to a hospital and is undergoing treatment.

The Ponda police meanwhile were dilly-dallying on the question of registering the complaint which forced the victim's mother to approach South Goa's Superintendent of Police whose office has taken note of this incident including related media reports.

The SP South's office has also assured that strict action will be taken against police personnel who act unlawfully and are involved in such incidents.
