Goa Velha Sports Club will organise the 15th London Trophy 2023 Inter Village Football Tournament from March 11 at Goa Velha Sports Club ground.
The final is scheduled to be played on March 28, the second day of the Procession of Saints. The inaugural match will be played between Curtorim Gymkhana and St Anthony's Club, Colva. The other teams participating in the tournament are Ambelim Sports Club, Chandor Club, Navelim Villagers Union, Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim, Don Bosco Oratory Fatorda, Betalbatim Sporting Club, Parish Youth Nuvem, Nerul Sports Club, Anjuna Gymkhana, St Savio Sports Club, Sinquerim Sports Club, St Anthony Sports Club Marna, Saligao United and hosts Goa Velha Sports Club. The tournament is being sponsored by the villagers from Goa Velha based in the United Kingdom.
Uguem Rising down Fr Agnel to reach quarters
Uguem's Rising Club prevailed over Fr Agnel Sports Club 3-2 via tiebreaker to march into the quarterfinals of the Late Afonso Aguiar Memorial inter-village football tournament organised by Cuncolim Union at Government School Playground, Cuncoilm.
The teams started at a good pace and created scoring opportunities. However, they could not break the deadlock and the half-time score remained 0-0. In the second half, the teams played possession-based football. Paroda created a good chance, forcing a save from the Uguem keeper.
In the 35th minute, Paroda's Velroy Carvalho dribbled to beat two defenders but failed to get past Uguem goalkeeper Keval Masacrenhas. In the 58th minute, Paroda's Shrine Climeth beat the goalkeeper to give Paroda a lead. In the dying minutes, Uguem's Alliston D'Souza equalised o force a tiebreaker.
In the penalty shootout, Handlee Carvalho and Clive Gomes scored for Uguem while only Kanchan Kiro scored for Paroda. Alister D'Souza of Uguem was awarded the Man of the match prize at the hands of Dhiraj Shirwant.
Cuncolim Union trials for First Division team
Cuncolim Union will conduct selection trials to pick a team for the GFA First Division league. The team trials will be held on March 13 at Cuncolim ground, at 7 am. Those players who are interested should report to the coach on the ground.
