Maharashtra Veterans beat Goa Veterans in close contest

PANAJI: Goa Veterans Cricket Team lost a closely fought match against Maharashtra Veterans Cricket Team In the All India West Zone Veterans T20 Cricket Tournament being played at Nanded.

Batting first, Goa Veterans put up a competitive 189/4 in their allotted 20 overs. The innings was highlighted by a brilliant century from Sahil Dhuri, who scored 103 runs off 61 balls. He was well supported by Damodar Redkar, who scored 30 off 32 balls, Muktar Kadri with 23 off 17 balls, and a quick cameo from Rajendra Dabholkar, who blasted 24 runs off just 6 balls to give Goa a strong finish.

For Maharashtra Veterans, Mohan Badure was the pick of the bowlers with figures of 2/26, while Shaikh Zahed also claimed 2/28.

Chasing 190, Maharashtra got off to a strong start with 97 runs for the first wicket. Abhijit Kadam led the chase with a fine 71 off 45 balls, while Kalid Zaman contributed 32 off 33 balls. Later, Asif Khan played a match-winning knock of 54 runs off just 21 balls, guiding Maharashtra to victory.

Maharashtra Veterans successfully chased down the target in the 20th over, losing 4 wickets, to seal their place in the final. For Goa Prasad Patil, Basapa Madar, Rajendra Dabholkar and Sahil Dhuri claimed one wicket each. Sahil Dhuri was declared fighter of the match for his brilliant century.

The final of the tournament will now be played between Maharashtra Veterans Cricket Team and Vidarbha Veterans Cricket Team.
