MARGAO
Malabar United, in collaboration with Kerala-based Lips FC, has officially appointed Goan football veteran Ajay Acharya as the head coach of its senior team.
The appointment was confirmed by club owner Mohammed Saeed, with Acharya’s two-year contract set to run until the summer of 2027. The announcement was made at a press conference on Monday, where Acharya expressed both humility and determination in taking on what he called a "huge opportunity."
“This is a fresh start for the team, and the beginnings are always the toughest,” Acharya said. “I’m very grateful to the club president, management, and players for placing their trust in me. It’s an honour and a challenge I fully embrace. My aim is to build a competitive squad capable of contending for titles in every competition.”
Acharya, 53, brings with him decades of experience as both a player and coach across Goa and Kerala. He most recently served with Panjim Footballers and began his coaching journey at the Sesa Football Academy. As a player, he represented prominent clubs including Anderson Marine, Dempo, Orkay Mills, Air India, Sesa Football Club, and Fransa Pax Sports Club.
Known for his attacking philosophy and emphasis on possession-based football, Acharya has already laid out his vision for the team.
“Everyone knows I enjoy attacking football and keeping the ball. Implementing that from the start will be a fantastic feeling. The players are professionals and experienced — they understand the value of this opportunity and the responsibility that comes with it,” he said.
Acharya stressed the importance of unity and adaptability, urging his squad to quickly align with the coaching staff’s expectations.
“As professional players, we must adapt quickly to new systems. It’s our duty to support the technical team, implement their instructions, and create a positive environment,” he added.
