My Cricket Academy edged out a determined Oxford Academy in a thrilling final of the 1st Under-14 All Goa tournament, held at the Konkan Railway ground in Margao on Sunday.
Both Margao-based teams battled hard in a closely contested final of the tournament organised by the Margao Cricket Youth Club.
Oxford Academy, batting first, managed 103 for 6 in their 20 overs, with Rehan Hubali top-scoring with 43 runs. Sahil, Swanik, Vansh, and Sparsh each claimed a wicket for My Cricket Academy.
Chasing the target steadily, My Cricket Academy’s openers reached 78 runs before rain clouds prompted their coach to send in pinch hitters. The risky tactic backfired as Sahil, Shourya, Vansh, Arjun, and Om were dismissed quickly, leaving the team at 99 for 5 with the game finely balanced. However, Jonas Perera held his nerve, scoring a composed 33 runs to guide his side to victory in 18.4 overs. Mubarak Tadpatri was the standout bowler for Oxford, taking 3 wickets for 18 runs.
Sahil Gaonkar was named Man of the Match, Jonas Perera received the Best Batsman award, Mubarak Tadpatri was declared Best Bowler, and Achintya Garg was honoured as Player of the Series.
Prabhav Naik, a social worker from Margao, was the chief guest and presented the prizes. Bhai Naik, Vice President of MCYC, and tournament organiser Hemant Angle were also present.
