Salgaocar Cricket Club (SCC) were crowned champions of Goa Premier League (GPL) 2024 after they beat DessertsNMore Geno Sports Club at Goa Cricket Association (GCA) Grounds, Porvorim by an innings to top the group.
Sagar Udeshi was the most valuable player and highest wicket-taker with 46 wickets while Deepraj Gaonkar with 493 runs in 6 innings performed consistently to be the architects of Salgaocar's victory.
Batting first, Salgaocar scored 382 all out in their first innings with contributions from Prathamesh Gawas (59), Gagandeep Singh (59), Deepraj Gaonkar (57) and No. 10 batter Shivam Singh (81), who put on 89 for 10th wicket with Saieesh Kamat (49) and 42 runs with Sagar Udeshi (24) for the last wicket, which made the difference in the game.
Geno Sports Club could manage 253 all out in their first innings, with only Darshan Misal (62) resisting Salgaocar’s attack successfully. Geno came back strongly to wind up the second innings of Salgaocar for a meagre 111; only Deepraj Gaonkar with 23 could resist the double spin attack of Darshan Misal and Mohit Redkar, who claimed 13 wickets in the match.
Geno could not chase down the target of 241 as their wickets tumbled at regular intervals and could manage only 92/6. Laxmesh Pawne claimed three wickets.
