Sao Jose de Areal edged past Betalbatim Sporting 9–8 in a dramatic penalty shootout to book their place in the quarterfinals of the 42nd Sao Jose de Areal Panchayat Cup 2025, organized by Sao Jose de Areal SC at the Padribhat ground on Monday.
The match ended goalless in regulation time, despite early and late chances for both sides. Betalbatim came close in the 2nd minute when Oliver D’Souza’s strike hit the post, while Areal's Josley Gomes narrowly missed the target in the second half.
In the ensuing tiebreaker, Areal held their nerve with successful conversions from Bersal Viegas, Mohammad Mansoori, Josley Gomes, Navil Fernandes, Dresden Viegas, David Colaco, Velan Soares, Astroy Costa, and Aniston Gomindes.
Betalbatim responded with goals from Asley Fernandes, Oliver D’Souza, Elroy Fernandes, Bonny Fernandes, Aliston Rogtao, Riyan Asampur, and Milton D’Souza, but it wasn’t enough as Areal advanced with a 9–8 win.
