MARGAO: Hosts Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim cruised into the quarterfinals of the Cavelossim Villagers UK Cup 2025 with a dominant 3-0 victory over Goa Velha, in a match played at the Fr Druston and Wellington Ground, Cavelossim. The tournament is being organized by the Santa Cruz Club of Cavelossim.
Goa Velha fielded only seven players, leaving them heavily outnumbered and unable to contain the relentless pressure from a well-organized Cavelossim side. Right from the kick-off, the hosts dominated possession and pressed high into the opposition half.
The breakthrough came as early as the 5th minute, when Alex Rodrigues delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, which was expertly headed home by Sanford Fernandes to give Cavelossim an early lead.
The advantage was doubled in style by Shanon Furtado, who struck from near the halfway line, catching goalkeeper Rajat Gauns off his line with a spectacular long-range effort.
Furtado sealed his brace later in the game, calmly tapping in a low cross from Kayne Furtado to put the result beyond doubt and secure Cavelossim’s place in the last eight of the competition.
Post-match, Dionizio Dias, Vice-President of the Club and former Sarpanch, presented the Food Court Man of the Match award to Shanon Furtado, in the presence of Solomon Mendes, Executive Committee Member of the Club.
