World-class FMX stunt riders Thomas from Austria and Sebastian from Finland proved their mettle in no uncertain terms as they mesmerised the crowd with their amazing stunts culminating in the dangerous backflip at the superbly organised first Cheryl Sequeira memorial Supercross under the FMSCI by Sirvodem Racing Clube de Goa, at Sirvodem-Navelim dirt-track, on New Year's Day.
The two foreign, expert riders raised the adrenalin flow which reached the apex as they performed the rock solid backflip, which is one of the hardest trick in the two-wheeler sport. "It was one of the most dangerous daredevil tricks ever seen in Goa," said Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte who was the chief guest at the event.
"Such stunts by the two riders showcased their skills which were performed with nerves of steel and are normaly seen on the TV," added the Tourism Minister.
Undoubtedly, the two foreign FMX riders stole the show with their stylish tricks which mesmerised the spectators. It was an exhibition of supreme skill, high stakes, risk and heart-pounding showmanship that made the Supercross one of the greatset spectacles in the realm of extreme sports. The dangerous backflip, one of the scariest tricks a racer can perform, alongwith several other highly risky tricks executed with perfection, earned a thunderous applause while many even skipped a heart beat. The twosome displayed some of the frightening tricks a racer can perform in freestyle. The stylish tricks were exhilarating.
The women, who took part for the first time, the U-10 boys with 6-year old Rithin Sai of Coimbatore with their special bikes created a wow factor. Certainly, it was a Supercross with a difference and never seen before in the State.
The awe-inspiring event and its smooth organisation came in for praise from Tourism Minister Khaunte, who pointed out that it is a new, attractive addition to sports tourism which is now gaining popularity in Goa with several world events having already taken place. Digambar Kamat, MLA applauded Navelim Racing Club for showcasing the event in a spectacular, professional manner never seen before. "It was a great team work with president Antonio Rodrigues, secretary Alan Sequeira, Treasurer Bryan D'Sa, Javed Shaikh and other members giving their utmost for its success, he pointed out," Yogiraj D Kamat Patron of the club.
The event was flagged off by Tourism Minister Kaunte in the presence of Digambar Kamat, MLA; Damodar Shirodkar, Margao Municipal Council Chairperson, Ms Dipali Sawal, vice-chairperson; Cipru Cardoso, ZP member; Paresh Naik, ZP member, Navelim Sarpanch Lucia Carvalho, Velinda Afonso, deputy sarpanch. Prizes and trophies amounting to Rs 4 lakh were given away by the guests.
