United Club of Verna booked their place in the quarterfinals of the Benaulim Panchayat Football Tournament with a commanding 2-0 win over Carmona Sports Club at the St John the Baptist Panchayat Ground in Benaulim.
The first half was evenly contested, with both teams sharing possession and battling hard in midfield but unable to break the deadlock.
Verna emerged with renewed intent after the break, launching a wave of attacks that eventually wore down the Carmona defence. The breakthrough came in the 56th minute when Sheldon Pereira capitalised on a defensive lapse to fire in the opener. Just four minutes later, he doubled Verna’s lead with a calm and clinical finish, putting the result beyond doubt.
Despite Carmona’s resilient first-half display, Sheldon’s brace proved decisive as Verna advanced to the next round with a confident and well-earned victory.
