Shri Bhumika HSS Parye and Damodar English HSS Gudi Paroda win hockey titles

Damodar English Higher Secondary School Guddi Paroda and Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School Parye won the boys and girls Inter Higher Secondary Schools Hockey U19 tournament of Sports and Youth Affairs at Peddem Mapusa recently.

In the boys’ final, Damodar English HSS Gudi Paroda defeated D M C Mapusa 5 -2.

The Salcete boys scored at will taking a 3-0 lead at half time while the Mapusa boys came back with two goals to make it 3-2 at end of the 43rd minute but Guddi HSS an emerging force in hockey in Goa struck two goals in the 47 and 49 the minute to make it 5-2 which turned out to be the final score.

Vivek Vaidande and Deepak Nawik scored for Mapusa while Harsh Goankar and Shantam Sheldekar scored two goals while Harsh Gaonkar, Rahul Gaonkar and Kunal Goankar scored one goal apiece.

In the girls’ section, Shri Bhumika Higher Secondary School Parye defeated Rosary Higher Secondary School Navelim 4-2 in Shoot- out.

At the normal period of play the teams were tied at 1- 1. Riya Talekholkar scored a field goal for the Parye HSS while Fatima Braganza converted a penalty corner to equalise for Navelim HSS.

The Parye girls are part of the Hockey youth development program started by Pilar Father's Goa Province under the banner of Sports For Youth Development. The program was started in 2021 under the leadership of Fr. Dominic Alvares in Sattari taluka which is now pursued by his successor Fr. George Sundersingh Nandiyala.

This is the first time that the Sattari team training under the Pilar Fathers youth development program have merged winners.

The Youth Development is emphasizing specially in empowering girls through hockey and is in cooperation with Hockey Heritage Group Goa and Stars of Sattari Hockey Club. It was a great success. After that, we had a camp at Govt. High School Keri. In these

For the last three years around 11 girls have played for the Goa team at the national championships while in 2022, Govt. High School reached the Junior Nehru under-17 girls finals and in 2023 Govt. High School Morlem reached the Junior Nehru finals.

As part of the hockey training for school students, the Pilar Fathers have arranged special tuition classes for around 82 students of Honda High School Honda.
