St Michael School Taleigao celebrate National Sports Day

MARGAO

St Michael School, Taleigao marked National Sports Day with a vibrant celebration aimed at promoting the importance of sports and physical fitness among students. The event was highlighted by the introduction of hockey into the school’s sports curriculum—an exciting addition to its extracurricular offerings.

The Chief Guest for the occasion, Irwin Cordo, Assistant Director in Coaching at the Directorate of Sports & Youth Affairs (DSYA), Panjim-Goa, encouraged students to actively engage in physical activities and make sports a regular part of their daily lives.

To further this initiative, the school announced a DIET Hockey Coaching Camp, scheduled from September 8 to 28, to be conducted by Brendan de Noronha.

Adding to the spirit of the day, Carl D'Souza delivered an inspiring talk on Major Dhyan Chand, India’s hockey legend, often referred to as the “Hockey Wizard.” Pranjali Haldankar addressed the students on the importance of maintaining fitness and staying away from negative influences.

The event was well-coordinated by association members Manoj Pednekar, Denzyl Fernandes, and Priya Moniz, along with physical education teachers Atul (Higher Secondary) and Eknath (High School).
